Be Proud Of What You Study

There was a brief time period during which I was in law school. I hated it. I wasn’t even remotely proud of the fact that I was doing it. And everyone in my life knew about it because of the way that I talked about the school. It wasn’t that I said anything horrible about law school but when people asked what I was doing, I would say, "I’m in a law school program" with this tone in my voice that said that I didn’t want to say anything else about it. It wasn’t too long before I dropped out of the law school program and started writing. Now when people ask what I do, I answer "I’m a writer" in a way that welcomes more conversation about the topic. That’s because I’m proud of what I do.
The way that you explain what you’re studying or doing for work can greatly influence how other people will feel about it. If someone asks you what you do and you answer in a bored tone that you are going to a culinary arts school, they may be inclined to believe that you’re just spending your days messing around in a kitchen and killing time. If you answer, "I’m involved with the LCB Cooking Programs", they are going to take your work in the culinary field seriously. Be proud of what you do or don’t bother doing it!
